Our Team

Matt Young

Founder & CEO

Matt Young founded CriticalPoint Capital in 2012 after spending over 15 years in various executive leadership roles including, most recently, his position as a Principal at Platinum Equity. While a Principal at Platinum Equity, Matt executed dozens of transactions across a wide variety of industries and held board positions with numerous portfolio companies. During his tenure, Matt also supported Platinum’s global expansion initiatives by opening a satellite office in Paris where he spent three years. Prior to joining Platinum Equity in 2001, he worked in the Technology Investment Banking Group at Bear Stearns & Co. and, previously, acted as a Contracting Officer for the United States Air Force where he negotiated the acquisition of multi-billion dollar military satellites, including the Milstar satellite system from Lockheed Martin.

Matt is currently serving on the advisory board of Simmons Foods and Point7West. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Management from the United States Air Force Academy and Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Southern California. 


Brad Holtmeier


Brad Holtmeier joined CriticalPoint Capital in early 2013 after spending 10 years in various finance roles including, most recently, over eight years in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Platinum Equity. While at Platinum, Brad led complex buy-side, sell-side, and financing transactions in the U.S. and in Europe. In addition, Brad held board positions for several companies in both the U.S. and Europe. Prior to joining Platinum Equity in 2005, Brad worked as a Senior Credit Officer for the specialty finance company Jules and Associates. Earlier in his career, Brad was an Acquisitions Officer for over five years in the United States Air Force. In his final assignment, he helped procure multi-billion dollar Global Positioning System satellite technology.

Brad received his Bachelor’s Degree in Management from the United States Air Force Academy and Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Southern California. 

Ryan McDowell

Managing Director, Head of Business Development

Ryan is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the firm’s strategic growth initiatives as Managing Director of Business Development.

Prior to joining CriticalPoint, Ryan spent 11 years in the Private Banking and Investment Group at Merrill Lynch, where he and his team managed over $16B for ultra-high net worth families and institutions. Having assisted numerous clients through successful exits of their businesses, he developed a unique understanding of the needs of business owners and their families – including wealth transfer and intergenerational dynamics – and possesses a deep knowledge of capital markets. Ryan is a graduate of Amherst College where he double majored in Political Science and Sociology. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation and is a member of the CFA Society of Los Angeles.

Carlos Rodriguez

Senior Vice President, Operations

Carlos Rodriguez, is CriticalPoint Capital’s Senior Vice President and head of portfolio company operations. He is responsible for strategy implementation, carve-out efforts, and is the primary liaison between portfolio company senior management and CPC’s partners. He comes to the firm with almost more than a decade of turnaround and restructuring consulting experience, along with four years in the investment management industry.  

Most recently he was the founder and managing principal of Cardiff Advisors, LLC, a boutique consulting firm focused on providing performance improvement and consulting services to private equity clients. Prior to that, he was a Director in the Restructuring group at Alvarez & Marsal. He has also served on the investment team at Whitehorse Capital Partners (HIG Whitehorse), a Dallas-based par and distressed credit manager.

Mr. Rodriguez is a graduate of Georgetown University with a double major in Finance and International Business. He was previously an active CFA charter holder, and a Certified Insolvency Restructuring Advisor (CIRA).


Luke Ewing


Luke is responsible for originating and executing merger and acquisition transactions at CriticalPoint. He brings over 10 years of investment banking, operational and program management experience covering a range of diverse industries.

Prior to joining CriticalPoint, Luke was with Goldman Sachs for three years where he worked in the West Region Advisory group of the Investment Banking Division. He advised on buy-side / sell-side engagements, recapitalizations and public offerings for corporate clients across a variety of industry verticals to include consumer / retail, healthcare, media, technology and real estate. In his time with the firm, Luke successfully supported and executed multiple mergers and acquisitions with transaction values totaling more than $3.2 billion.

Prior to Goldman, Luke served on active duty for over seven years in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he worked as an Acquisition Officer developing and acquiring next-generation space and missile technologies for the Pentagon. Luke also served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer leading over 300 individuals in maintenance operations for multi-million dollar surveillance and intelligence aircraft. He deployed to South America supporting the southern hemisphere’s drug and narcotic interdiction program.

Luke received his Bachelor of Science in Management from the United States Air Force Academy and Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprise from Oklahoma State University. He is a Registered Representative of BA Securities, LLC and holds FINRA series 79 license.


Monica Martinez


Monica is responsible for executing merger and acquisition transactions at CriticalPoint Capital. Monica brings over 12 years of experience in financial due diligence, project management and public accountancy across a breadth of industries.

Prior to joining CriticalPoint Capital, Monica worked in Deloitte’s Merger and Acquisition Advisory practice. Monica has participated in all phases of the transaction life cycle. She led due diligence teams that advised the firm’s most significant private equity and strategic corporate clients on a wide variety of operational and financial due diligence issues related to transactions. Her deal experience covered a variety of transaction environments including acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures in the US and cross-border. In addition to her client service role, she supported Deloitte’s Global M&A leader in drafting and communicating global strategic initiatives and drove long-term strategic innovation planning. Monica worked closely with Deloitte’s client Leadership Development Program assisting newly appointing senior finance executives with developing 180-day strategic plans and supporting their transition into their new roles.

Monica is a native Spanish speaker. She received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the USC Leventhal School of Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. She is a Certified Public Accountant and registered Project Management Professional.
